Week 5 Grain valley had a tough opponent who has ran Class 5 football for the past two years, and who won back to back undefeated State Championships. After coming off a tough loss in week 4 the Eagles were in need of a big win.

There was 2 minutes winding down in the 4th Quarter, the Eagles had the ball and were down 17-19. They were driving down the field and got to 1st and 10 on the 11 yard line going into the endzone. They called a passing play and the Tight End, Zach Dowhower pre snap knew that he was going to get the ball.

This is how he described the moment, “I remember lining up and seeing my defender off the ball about 10 yards. So I expected that I was probably going to get the pass, so presnap I made sure to take a deep breath and mentally be ready for the lazer that Cohen Morris was going to deliver. As I took off and cut to the outside I saw the ball coming right at me and was able to reel in the catch. I turned and saw 3 unblocked defenders and just put my shoulder down and never stopped my feet. All I can remember after that was that I was getting pushed from every direction and ended up in the endzone. I layed there and saw all the excitement that went through my teammates as they helped me up and celebrated.”

With that touchdown the Eagles were able to pull off the underdog story and beat Platte County 25-19.
