ABOUT FOOTBALL
Grain Valley Middle school football is available for 8th grade students at North and South Middle School. Tryouts are not required for students to participate in football. Football season takes place from the first day of school through mid October. All equipment is provided. The middle school football game schedule can be viewed online.
PRACTICE INFORMATION
Middle school football practice takes place Monday - Friday after school from 3:30 - 5:30 PM. Practice locations are GVHS and South Middle School. Practice locations will be communicated to families through ParentSquare. Transportation to practice and away games is provided.

Middle School Volleyball
ABOUT VOLLEYBALL
Volleyball is available for 7 & 8th-grade students at North and South Middle School. Tryouts for volleyball take place the first 4 days of school at North Middle School, and additional information is sent through ParentSquare. Students will be required to bring their own volleyball shoes, knee pads, black spandex, and they will purchase a warm-up t-shirt after they make the team. Volleyball season takes place from the first day of school through mid October. The volleyball game schedule can be viewed online.

ABOUT CROSS COUNTRY
Middle school cross-country is available for 7th and 8th grade students at North and South Middle School. There are no tryouts for cross country. Students will be required to bring their own running shoes, clothes to change into, and a water bottle. Cross country takes place from the first day of school through early October. The cross country schedule can be viewed online.

ABOUT WRESTLING
Wrestling is available for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls at North and South Middle School. Students will be required to bring their own wrestling shoes and headgear. ABOUT TRACK AND FIELD
Middle school track and field is available for 8th-grade students at North and South Middle School. Students will be required to bring their own tennis shoes and track spikes are required for students competing in sprint events or jumps. Track takes place from early March to mid-May. There are no tryouts for track and field. The track meet schedule can be found online.

Middle School Cheerleading
Cheerleading is available for 7th and 8thgrade students at North and South Middle School. Cheerleading takes place during fall and winter. Tryouts take place in early April. This activity cheers at middle school football and girls' and boys' basketball games during the fall and winter seasons.
PRACTICE INFORMATION
Cheerleading practice will occur on Tuesday’s from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Grain Valley High School, unless there is a football or basketball game. Additional information will be communicated through ParentSquare.
Scholar Bowl / Jazz Band and Ensemble
ABOUT SCHOLAR BOWL
Scholar Bowl is available for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at North and South Middle School. This activity runs from December 1st - February 28th. There are no tryouts or additional items required to participate. Students will work as a team to answer trivia questions on all subjects. Competitions occur at North Middle School as well as area middle schools. Transportation to competitions will be provided.
PRACTICE INFORMATION
Practice for scholar bowl will occur Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 3:15 - 4:30 PM at North Middle School.
ABOUT JAZZ BAND
Jazz band and ensemble is available for 7th and 8th grade students from late November - late April. Jazz band requires the ability to play a jazz instrument. Saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, bass guitar, electric guitar, and piano are accepted. Information about jazz camp will be communicated to families in late November. Attendance at jazz camps are required to earn a spot in the competitive jazz band, which begins rehearsals in January. Bass guitar, electric guitar, and piano are the only instruments that can be filled by non-band students. Students will need to have their own instruments and accessories.

Jazz band practices on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in the South Middle School band room. Transportation from North Middle School is provided.
FORENSICS, SPEECH & DEBATE
ABOUT FORENSICS, SPEECH AND DEBATE
Forensics, speech & debate is available for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at North and South Middle School. This activity runs from mid-November through early March. There are no tryouts or additional equipment required to participate. Tournaments occur at North Middle School as well as area middle schools. Transportation to tournaments will be provided.

ABOUT ROBOTICS
Robotics is available for 7th and 8th grade students at North & South Middle School. This activity runs from early October to late January. There are no tryouts or additional items required to participate in robotics club. Information about joining robotics will be presented during afternoon announcements and communicated to parents through ParentSquare.
MEETING INFORMATION
The Robotics Club at North and South Middle School meets on Wednesdays after school until 4:30 PM. There will be a North vs. South competition taking place in January.

ABOUT THE FALL MUSICAL
The fall musical is available for 7th and 8th grade students at North & South Middle School. The fall musical takes place from the first day of school through mid-October. Auditions for the fall musical are required and take place in August after school. Information about the fall musical and show dates is communicated through school announcements, flyers, Google Classroom, social media, and ParentSquare. No additional items are required for the fall musical.
REHEARSAL INFORMATION
Rehearsals for the fall musical take place at North Middle School and Grain Valley High School Monday - Friday from 3:00 - 4:30 PM and 3:00 - 5:30 PM closer to the show.
STUDENT CONCIL
ABOUT STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council at North Middle School is available for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. This activity runs through the duration of the school year. Students can apply for the election for student council and are voted on by their peers on in early September. Information about the signing up for the election is communicated during afternoon announcements and to families through ParentSquare. Students have the option to purchase a STUCO t-shirt, but there are no other requirements for this activity.
MEETING INFORMATION
Student council at North Middle School meets once a month during Friday SOAR time.
ABOUT STUDENT COUNCIL
All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 at South Middle School are invited to participate in Student Council, a leadership organization that meets throughout the entire school year. To join, interested candidates must apply for the upcoming election, which will be decided by a peer vote on September 6th. Details regarding the application process are shared via afternoon announcements and sent to families through ParentSquare. While there is an optional STUCO t-shirt available for purchase, there are no other costs or requirements to be a part of this activity.

ABOUT WINTER GUARD
Winter Guard at North & South Middle School is available for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. This activity runs from midNovember to late March. Tryouts for Winter Guard will occur in mid-November. All information regarding tryouts and camps will be communicated through ParentSquare and flyers will be up at both middle schools. No additional equipment is required and all items for the activity will be included in the fee that is communicated during the mandatory parent meeting. The competition schedule can be viewed online.
